BOR 30 August 2012 [Gurtong]– This is the second attack to be launched in a week after a similar attack on SPLA left 40 soldiers dead.

“The security situation was calm but people remain on alert and moved away. I just received information that they have launched an attack on Likuangole now and the fighting is now continuing in Likuangole,” said Jonglei State Governor Kuol Manyang Juuk.

The civilian population has been evacuated from the area.

The governor said it is rebellion against the government because if they killed the SPLA soldiers and attacking SPLA barrack then they are enemies of the nation.

He said that they have received reports that a plane landed at a place where Yau Yau is reported to be hiding and they suspect he is receiving ammunition. Yau Yau was in Khartoum and is said to be in the area.

“The Payam administrator has been instructed to go to the area accompanied by the police and chiefs to monitor the situation in Likuangole,” he said.

He accussed the Khartoum government of giving logistical support to the rebels with intension of undermining the security situation in Jonglei.

Sudan is supporting Yau Yau “So that they can tell the world that this is what we were telling you that South Sudanese can’t able to rule them as they use to say before independence,” he said.

The number of casualties is still unknown as the fighting which started this morning is ongoing.
