JUBA, 07 October 2012 [Gurtong] - The Chairperson of the Abyei Community Organization in Juba Deng Mading in a statement the press said Abyei condemned Sudan proposal of turning down the AU proposal on the status of Abyei and called all the three parties; South Sudan, AU and the UN Security Council to insist on full implementation of the AU proposal on Abyei.

“We condemn the negative position of Bashir towards the AU High Level Implementation Panel Proposal on the final status of Abyei,” Mading said in the statement.

“We urge the international community and UN to impose the AUHIP Proposal on the government of Sudan as the only acceptable solution for the final status of Abyei area,” he added.

The community insisted that, the Abyei area awarded by the Permanent Court of Arbitration to the Nine Ngok Dinka Chiefdoms will never and shall never be touched by anybody unless the people of Abyei are dead in defending their beloved motherland.

Sudan and South Sudan last week stroke a partial deal of nine agreements on numerous post secession issues that have kept tensions between the two countries high.

However, Sudan turned down any agreement to be reached on the rich oil region of Abyei.

The AU Security Council is expected to endorse a final resolution on Abyei and submit to the UNSC, South Sudan Chief Negotiator on the post secession issues Pagan Amum said.

Abyei has remained a breeding ground for activating conflict between the two countries since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in 2005 which brought to an end decades of war where millions of lives were lost.

Analysts have actually warned unless a final comprehensive resolution is reached to address the problem, the Abyei issue risks watering down the already agreements signed in Addis Ababa.
