BOR, 06 May 2013 [Gurtong] – The incident on Sunday also left four huts burned into ashes.
Speaking to the media on Monday, the commissioner of Twic East County Dau Akoi Jurkuch has said that the heavy rain started at around 2pm and since the dry season, there has been no rain in some of the payams adding that it is the first rain in the county since last year.
According to the sources, the thunder was reported to have killed a woman at 4:30 pm before it stopped raining.
Aguin Deng said that thunder deaths are common during the rainy season.
Last month, a fierce windstorm blew off more than 80 homes in Uror County, Jonglei State, leaving more than 400 people without shelter.
At Yuai Primary School, three classroom roofs were reported to have been blow off, the director said that the heavy wind usually cause damages to them annually.
He said that displaced persons are currently being sheltered by their relatives while the injured were treated at Yuai Dispensary.
In March a rainstorm destroyed building in Bor town where more than 20 people were injured.
More than 100 pupils from St. Andrew’s Primary School sustained injuries during the incident.
