TORIT, 19 May 2013 [Gurtong] –The congregation at the Torit Catholic Church in Eastern Equatoria State this morning come under criticism on the use of miniskirt and uncontrollable trousers for females and males respectively, warning that those dressing in such a manner could be denied from receiving the Holy Communion.

“Check the length of your skirt, the level of the belt and size of the trousers before stepping forward; you are likely to be denied to receive the Holy Communion, following a ban on indecent dress code in the church,” Mr. Louis Otto, an announcer at Our Lady of Assumption Parish Church declared the ban of specified dress code to the congregation on Sunday.

Under the indecent dressing code category is; the mini-skirts, skirts with slits that expose the thigh, transparent dresses, commonly called ‘see through’, skin tight skirts and trousers for ladies.

Trousers that hang down below the waist commonly referred to as ‘pull down’ are the deprecated attire for men when receiving the Holy Communion in the Church.

Otto said that Christians are not barred from wearing dresses of their choices for Church service but they should select decent ones when coming to receive the Holy Communion.

“The question is not barring anybody from wearing any dress she /he needs to use on Sunday for service but a Christian coming to receive the Holy Communion which represents the body of Christ should be decent because the Lord is Holy,” Mr. Otto explained.

He said that indecent dressing symbolizes mockery to the Holiness of the Lord, saying social outfits and attire used at entertainment joints are displeasure in the Church.

“You don’t have to come to the Church to receive the Holy Communion in fancy clothes you use for discos and other social event as it’s an insult to the faith,” he warned.

Otto discloses that the Catholic Action and Evangelizers will be positioned on surveillance with responsibility to inform the priests when they spot those who defy the dress restrictions so that they are denied the Holy Communion.

“We don’t use force in the Church but we have the Catholic Action and the Evangelizers whose responsibility is to monitor the Christians coming for Holy Communion and inform the priests not to give the Holy Communion to someone spotted indecently dressed,” he explained.

He stated that the Parish council came up with this directive after citing several incidents last year where Christians were destructed from concentrating on prayers when people indecently dressed step out for the Holy Communion.
