Young Stars FC have been crowned the champions of the Eastern Equatoria State’s South Sudan Cup 2013 after a hard fought 4:3 victory over Imotang FC in a penalty shout out.

TORIT, 28 May 2013 [Gurtong] – A total of 16 teams participated in the tournament organized by Torit Local Football Association and Organizing Committee in collaboration with State Ministry of Culture, Social Development, Youth and Sports.

 The final played on Sunday saw normal time ending goalless, hence prompting penalty shout outs that ended in favour of Young Stars.
Although the finale concluded peacefully, Imatong FC’ Alexander Peter received a red card 30 minutes to full time for an inexcusable tackle on a Young Stars player. 

The current Director for Governance Affairs in the State Ministry of Cabinet and Parliamentary Affairs Mr. William Okot de Toby, a member of the National Technical Committee congratulated both teams for reaching the final. 

The Chairperson of the Torit Local Football Association, Hon. Charles Udwar Ukech, also hailed the winners of the tournament and encouraged both teams to work for unity of the state and shun idleness. 

The State Culture, Social Development, Youth and Sports Ministry’s Acting Director General, Mr. Simon Auwas Pidomoe commented the efforts put by both teams and congratulated them for reaching the peak of the tournament.

Joseph Vincensus of Imatong FC was man of the match and Emmanuel Mawa from Malakia FC was voted the overall best player of the tournament.
Isaac Peter from Imatong FC was the top scorer of the tournament while the best coach of the tournament went to Wilson D. Lokang who expressed gratitude to the management for recognizing his behavior, management and smartness.

The national football team coach Mr. Zoran Djordjevic, the UNMISS head in EES Hiroko also attended the finale.

Hiroko Mosko expressed gratitude to the youth and leaders of the state for organizing the tournament, saying peace and security lies squarely in their hands.
Last year, Volcano Football Club were the champions of the tournament after beating Kineti Football Club 2:1.
