SPLM Arman accuses NCP for repressive censorship on newspapers

KHARTOUM, 15 April (Gurtong) - Deputy Secretary of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) Northern Sector, Yasser Arman Saeed has accused the National Congress Party (NCP) of exercising a repressive censorship on newspapers. At a press conference yesterday at the premises of Ajrass al Huriya Arabic newspaper upon its suspension, Arman affirmed that the NCP political cadres are exercising a repressive censorship on newspapers through the security organs and it is to be treated as a political decision.

National security organs have no right to do such activities according to the transitional constitution of 2005. Arman who is also a member of the National Assembly said that NCP needs to create new methods of dealing with people.

He also said that the NCP political leaders are investing in cultivating hatred and sedition amongst people. He criticized newspaper owners of having no clear vision on the freedom of press. Arman announced his stand with the suspended newspapers which are Ajras Al-Huriya, Ray al-Shab and Al-Ayaam daily news papers.

A member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Unionist Party, Ali Mahmoud Hassenin asserted that this censorship is denounced according to the transitional constitution and that he is ready to present a call for the Ajras al Huriya in the court to face this issue. On his part a Popular Congress Party member, Mahboub Abdalsalam exclaimed that the NCP is the cause of the Islamic movement in Sudan. Both Ajras al Huriya and Ray al -Shab newspapers made statements concerning the matter which said that they will not take there newspapers to the security organ for supervision even if it will lead to suspension

The deputy chief editor for the leading Arabic daily news paper Al-Ayaam said that this is not the first time security services agency has been closing down the news paper in Khartoum, he descript that Al-Ayaam daily news papers was opened in 1953; it was first closed down in 2004 for three month by security services organ. Following the Kajaber inccedent, the security just targeting the journalists of Al-Ayaam daily news papers detaining journalist Sazafi Sayeed without clear statement at the last.

On Monday, the security officers just appear at our office requesting the news papers for reading, after finished reading; they told us to bring the news papers before reaching the printing press house. These are just instruction to silent media about the census crisis, all printing press media including Radio and TV are seriously controlled by Nation congress party with their security agency in Khartoum.

There are daily arrested to journalist by security organ in Khartoum, at the same the journalism union is controlled by NCP personnel.
