Wani Dismisses Fake GOSS Decree

Central Equatoria state Governor, Clement Wani Konga, assured the citizens
of greater Juba and Yei that old borders of Juba and Yei would not be changed
unless the Board of Local Government recommends to the President of the Government of Southern Sudan.

In a press release issued Wednesday, Governor Wani said the fake decree which was claimed to have hailed from GOSS Secretariat, annexing Wonduruba Payam to Lainya County, was only meant to black mail President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Central Equatoria Governor for personal interests.

The release indicated that the GOSS President did not give any directives regarding alteration of Wonduruba Payam as perpetuated by what Governor Wani termed as "misleading group" of people who do not respect both communities' right to peacefully co-exist. The Governor said both Kiir and him had not discussed the question of creation of counties mid this month nor the issue of Wonduruba Payam which has never been resolved in the area's consultative conference in May this year.

In light of this development, Governor Clement Wani has directed the Commissioner of Lainya County to disassociate himself from the administration of Wonduruba Payam, which is to be carried out by the Commissioner of Juba and the salaries are to be taken to Wonduruba in the shortest possible time.

He added that he met the first vice president of the republic and GOSS president on August 15, 2006 and discussed the following issues; state constitution which is held hostage because his state government failed to relocate the state capital somewhere else, government houses and land, status of Juba, security threats in the state, revenue collection, interference in the state administration by GOSS, request for loan for the
state, educational threats and cholera reported in Lainya County.
