South Sudan Legislative Assembly Elects Speaker and Deputy

Khartoum, Thursday , September 29, 2005.

Members of South Sudan Legislative Assembly elected Cdr. James Wani Igga as Speaker for South Sudan Legislative Assembly and Mr. Tor Deng Mawien, former Governor of Warrap State, who belongs to the National Congress Party (NCP), as Deputy Speaker.

Speaking from Juba by phone, a member of the South Sudan Regional Assembly, who declined to be named, told the Gurtong Correspondent in Khartoum this after noon, that the Southern MPs met in Juba town today, Thursday, September 29, 2005 during its opening session in the presence of the First Vice President of the Republic of Sudan and the President of the Government of South Sudan (GoS), Lt. General Salva Kiir Mayardit.

The members of South Sudan Legislative Assembly are expected to pass the Interim Constitution of the Government of South Sudan (GoSS), within the next few days. The same member also said there is scarcity of clean drinkable water and proper accommodation for the MPs present in Juba these days.

The same source in Juba said the GoSS has appealed to those citizens of Juba town having more houses to be rented and used for accommodating the Southern MPs during this period of their meeting in Juba.
