Riek Expects IDPS Home Soon

The Vice Chairman of the SPLM/A and the Vice President of the Government of South Sudan (GOSS), Dr. Riek Machar and the Supervisor of Western Equatoria State, in Khartoum on Saturday, August 13, said that in order to make unity attractive, South Sudan must be brought up to the level of Northern Sudan in terms of development and that this should be carried out within the six-year-interim-period as stipulated in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).

Dr Riek was addressing a gathering of chiefs and intellectuals from Western Equatoria held at the Sudan Council of Churches (SCC) Head Office at Amarat in Khartoum. He emphasized that repatriation of the IDPs would be a “top priority” in order to speed up development in the Southern states.

He further said the civil servants, leaders and heads of political parties, heads of different departments, police, prisons, wildlife and security personnel of Western Equatoria State have started moving out of Juba to carry out their duties in the Head Office in Yambio in Western Equatoria!

The Supervisor of Western Equatoria State (WES) disclosed that the number of counties in Western Equatoria has been from four to ten. He stated that the governments at all levels from central government to the state governments will be announced within the next few days.

With regards to the posts of the governor of Western Equatoria State, Dr. Machar called on the citizens of Western Equatoria to nominate from amongst them three names-people whom they (Citizens of Western Equatoria) trust and the President of the Government of South Sudan(GOSS) will select one from amongst them as Governor for the State.
