Mr. Akol Paul Kordit, Spokesperson of the Government Committee for the Coordination and Reception of the Members of the SPLM-In Opposition advance committee welcomed the advance team and reiterated the government's commitment in implementing the peace deal.

“..As a government we are happy to receive them and at this juncture, I would like to reiterate our commitment for the implementation of the peace Agreement and the reconciliation of the people of South Sudan, development of war affected areas and final peace in our country. We are happy to receive them” said Kordit.

150 members of the advance team were expected to arrive under the leadership of SPLM-IO Chief negotiator Taban Deng Gai, but his flight from Khartoum was delayed due to what the team said was due to technical reasons.

“As you know the team that we were supposed to receive today, the number is supposed to be 150 members but so far we have received 15 members from the SPLM-IO led by Hon. Ramadan Laku” said Kordit.

“The reason the second plane did not arrive is purely technical. The plane took off from Khartoum and it has not yet landed in Gambella. It is expected to land in Gambella around 5:30 pm but so far the plane has not landed yet. We will continue to keep contact with Gambella and see the possibilities of it coming this evening” he said.

Hon. Ramadan Hassan Laku, on his part said their return guarantees the willingness to implement the peace agreement.

“We would like to assure the people of South Sudan that we have come today for the implementation of the peace agreement that is why we are here now” said Laku.

The delegation of the SPLM-IO was received at Juba International Airport by a government delegation led by the Finance Minister Hon. David Deng Athorbei amongst others.
The coming of the SPLM-IO is in preparation for the formation of a transitional government that was agreed in the peace agreement.
