Newly Appointed Governors Take Oath Of Office

The 28 appointed Governors of South Sudan on Tuesday took oath office in presence of the Chief Justice Chan Reech Madut and President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

JUBA, 30 December 2015 [Gurtong] -
President Kiir however, said that Governors of Upper Nile and Unity State must be ready to Step down for the oppositions to occupy the positions.

“I want you to bear with us that if the opposition wants to take over in the States of Upper Nile and Unity, you have to accept and step down.”

He said the appointment of the Governors is not a violation to the peace agreement and its implementation process adding that it is the will of the people.

“It was the great need and demand of our people for a very long time” he said.

“….and I really have to thank the people of South Sudan for their patience, waiting for the 28 states. We don’t want anything to happen to the agreement, we need to implement it.”

He stressed that all Governors must cooperate among themselves.

He extended his congratulations to the Governors and assured of government support to the new Governors as he wished then a happy new year.

The 28 States were created in October this year and and Governors appointed on the 24 of December.
