The coalition ceremony was witnessed by the SPLM Cdr. Agustino Maduat Cdr. in charge of SPLM/A Office in Khartoum South. Cdr. Agustino welcomed the Fertit Chiefs into the SPLM and told them that no body should regard themselves as "Late Comers" into the SPLM/A! Everybody is welcomed at any time and anywhere they want to join the Movement.

Cdr. Agustino said the coalition of Fertit Chiefs and involvement in the SPLM is something good and encouraging because the SPLM is the movement that brought peace to the whole of Sudan. He said this is what the SPLM expects from all ethnic chiefs in the South and from all the people of the South to pay their allegiance to the SPLM.

The Cdr appealed to the chiefs to translate the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) signed in January this year by the Government of Sudan (GoS) and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) into action and make it workable at all levels of the society, because the CPA is for all.

Cdr Agustino hailed the role played by the Fertit Chiefs in Khartoum, and northern Sudan as a whole for being committed and defended their people in times of hardships especially in Khartoum, where Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) women are the most vulnerable and destitute.

Speaking on behalf of the Chiefs, Nichola Ufo Kpongel said their alliance with the SPLM and declaration to the join the Movement is their "Free will", not that they were compelled by any body! He said, they have witnessed the commendable job done by the SPLM/A especially in bringing an end to the sufferings endured by the people of the South and other marginalized areas during the last 21 years of bloody war in the South.

The Chief stated that, they would be faithful and loyal to the SPLM/A programme. "Even if the SPLM/A is going to hell", we will be the first to go to hell with the SPLM/A, commented Chief Nichola Ufo!

He said it is better that everybody goes to hell if SPLM/A leads people to Hell! He hailed the role played by the SPLM/A Chairman and C-in-Chief Dr. John Garang De Mabior who negotiated in good faith with the GOS and brought peace to the Sudan.

Nichola Ufo is one of the Fertit Chiefs who participated in Cross line Peace Recovery and Reconciliation Conference between the Fertit-Luo(Jur) and Dinka Marial Bai of Western Bahr El-Ghazal, which took place in Mapel Municipality in Bahr El-Ghazal in March this year.

The Leaders of Fertit and other ethnic communities of Western Bahr El-Ghazal State told the writer of this article about the declaration of the seven chiefs to the SPLM on Monday, June 20, 2005 at the SPLM/A Khartoum Head Office.

This announcement came within the context of the preparation by the Western Bahr El-Ghazal Community Forum (FCF) and the SPLM Youth Association of the New Sudan belonging for a workshop to discuss the Resolutions of Mapel Reconciliation Conference to take place on Friday, June 24, 2005 in Khartoum.
