JUBA, 14 January 2016 [Gurtong]- President Salva Kiir Mayardit was speaking at the official occasion for the registration of the SPLM party shortly after presenting the party’s legal documents to the Political Parties Council for registration on Wednesday.

“We are sure that we are going to win the election” said President Kiir to the media during the registration of the SPLM party.

Bol Makueng Yol, SPLM Secretary of Information welcomed all those who are interested in joining the SPLM party.

“Those who want to join the SPLM are welcome. Those who are convinced about the nations’ values and programs of the SPLM they are all welcome. SPLM welcomes everyone from all parts of the country” said Makueng.

He further said that the reunification of the SPLM will follow shortly after the registration of the party.

“After we are registered we are going to embark on many activities including the full reunification of the SPLM and the implementation of the peace agreement”

“We have completed all the procedures for the registration that are required for election. We are sure that we are going to win the election.”

Jemma Nunu Kumba, Acting Secretary General of the SPLM said they have registered up to 17,000 members across the country passing the limit of 5000 required by the political parties’ council for registration.

She assured the membership that the SPLM will always be the biggest and winning party in the country.

“Those who have not registered, we want all of them to register. Those who are in Juba let them come and register at the General Secretariat or Payams. We are working to be more united than before so that we can lead this country forward” Kumba said.

“Again for us to succeed there must be peace in South Sudan so we call upon all the members of our party to preach the message of peace, reconciliation forgiveness and unity of our people” Kumba noted.

Formed on May 16th 1983, the SPLM operated under a guerrilla fighting the Sudan until it liberated the country, through a referendum and independence.

The Iconic leader of the SPLM, the late Dr. John Garang de Mabior who ended the 21 years of civil war with the Arabs (Northerners) through the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) died in 2005 in a helicopter crash.

His right hand man Salva Kiir then became the leader after the death of Dr. John Garang and won the election in 2010.

However, the crisis of December 2013 halted the elections and made the parliamentarians extended the terms of president to 2018 to use this time for the return of the stolen peace by the war.
