CTSAMM CONDEMNS THE ARREST AND DETENTION OF ITS MONITORING AND VERIFICATION TEAM (MVT) TEAM LEADER IN TORIT.

On 29th June 2016, upon arrival to Torit at approximately 8.45am, the CTSAMM MVT Team Leader was arrested and detained. The incident is one in a series of such restrictions on freedom of movement which the CTSAMM has experienced.

The CTSAMM is operating according to processes and accords which have been agreed to by the Parties and regional and international partners and organizations. The CTSAMM would like to reiterate that it has a legal right to be present as stipulated in the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (ARCSS).

Therefore the CTSAMM is calling on the Transitional Government of National Unity to ensure the immediate release of the MVT Team Leader to enable the CTSAMM focus on discharging its mandate and persevere in our pursuit of peace.

The CTSAMM is steadfast in its resolve to execute its mandate to monitor the Permanent Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements (PCTSA) in order to enable peace and stability in South Sudan and help bring an end to the long suffering of the people.
