WAU, 13 July 2016 [Gurtong]
– Doctors without Borders/Medcine Sans frontieres (MSF) said it is preparing to set up a malnutrition centre in Wau at the UNMISS protection of civilians site.

As lives remain difficult for families with children, (MSF) said the centre at the UN POC in Wau town will save thousands of children in dire need of special care.

“MSF is currently in the process of setting up a paediatric stabilization unit at the POC opened by the UNMISS. The idea is that we do special care for children mainly under 5 years. This also includes inpatient department which takes care of malnourished children that need special care. We are just setting up at Wau UNMISS POC and the idea is we can refer from the other IDPs around town to our main centre,” said the program manager of MSF, Sara Vuyisteke.

As many civilians fled outside the town, Sara said MSF has also set up mobile clinics to provide all necessary support to those in need of facilities outside the town.

MSF said it is worried about any further deterioration on the women and children’s health at the camps.

Since the violence erupted on 25th last month in the town, thousands of people have sought refuge at the UN camps, schools and many live under tress in the churches in Wau town and are in desperate need of food and shelter.
