Calls For Peace Dominate UN Day Celebrations In Imatong State

The United Nations Day was on Friday marked in Imatong State with calls to embrace peace.

TORIT, 21 October 2016 [Gurtong] –
The United Nations Mission in South Sudan, UNMISS, spearheaded the celebrations with calls to leaders to observe peace in the country.

Government officials joined the UN agencies to observe the day as the Acting Governor Hon. Ukidimoi Ugwaru Kawong declared his government’s assurance and commitment to uphold the peace and the UN Charter in totality.

He said that the Governor, Nartisio Loluke Manir has been advocating for peace and security stability in the State.

"... We want to affirm our commitment to uphold the UN charter so we can be able to safeguard our children's future," Hon. Ugwaru expressed.

Songs, dances and poetry braced the celebration which was held at the Torit Freedom Square.
 In a today's message read publicly by UNMISS' Acting Head of Field Office in Torit, Bashir Aligelle, the Secretary-General urged the International Community to continue with the global Mission of Peace, Sustainable Development and Human Rights.
