Wau State Governor Assures Aid Agencies of Free Movement To Affected Areas

The Governor of Wau State, Andrea Mayar on Wednesday told humanitarian aid agencies led by the head of South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (SSRC) operating in his State that their safety during their operation and accessibility to affected areas has been put in place.

WAU, 18 January 2017 [Gurtong] -Mayar who was responding to several accusations raised by the agencies that they are being denied by the State security agencies to move freely into some areas around the State.

“We are here to address all the difficulties facing the humanitarian agencies, as per the directives from our national government; our role is to facilitate the works of aid agencies in terms of providing them free movement and security protection,” said Mayar.

“It is very clear that one of my mandate and role to you is to provide you with free accessibility and security, I think this is a very clear message to you and I hope you will understand that message and you will cooperate with me, I don’t have any problem,” said the Governor.

“You the various UN agencies, you are free to move anywhere anytime you need through SSRC, please let me know if you have any difficulties,” said the Governor.

He also urged the UN agencies operating in the State to help the State government in convincing the Internally displaced persons sheltering at the UN protection sites and churches to return to their homes citing that the State security situation is stable in all fled residential areas within the town.

“The way you behave continues encouraging these people to continue maintaining to stay in the UNMISS camp, these people are just there due to economic reasons which remains difficult for everyone now to handle, you go to the chiefs in the various residential areas, convince the people through distributing the food aid through their residential area than in these camps such that they can return to their homes,” said Acho.

Mayar said most people who have now chosen to prolong staying at the camps go out during day time and stay in their homes and later in the evening return to churches and UN PoC.
