Call For Respect Of Bishop Taban's Final Decision

"In the final analysis, we are all South Sudanese and we should check our feelings as we praise or protest."

By Jacob J Akol (Editor, Gurtong)

Last time I saw Bishop Paride Taban, which was only last week, he had not decided either to accept or decline the responsibility he is being called to shoulder by the president.

But, whatever decision he eventually makes will be something he alone can tell the president.

I am posting this to call for respect for whatever decision he makes:

If he accepts the responsibility, it is because he believes he will do some good for the country; and no one should see it as "a sell-out to the government".

If he declines, it will be for very good reasons; and no one should read it as "disrespect for the president" or that he has become "a rebel".

Whatever his decision, I am sure his Peace Centre at Kuron will remain open for all peace-loving South Sudanese.

In the final analysis, we are all South Sudanese and we should check our feelings as we praise or protest.
