The on-going training, being conducted in collaboration with the State and national health ministry, was launched last Friday.

Addressing the State leaders during the training, the National HIV/AIDs Commission’s Chairperson, Dr. Esterina Novello Nyilok said that it is every South Sudanese leader's responsibility to ensure that the citizens get basic tips about prevention and treatment of the disease.

“AIDS is real. It exists in our midst. I am aware there are many people out there who keep denying that AIDS does exist. I want to assure them that it exists."

She emphasized that creating a general awareness in the country remains vital.

Dr. Nyilok disclosed that her Commission's mandate is to develop appropriate policies and strategies on the HIV/AIDs, one of them being increase of public awareness creation and campaigns aiming at combating its spread.

Further, the leader revealed that her Commission's long term vision seeks to achieve the citizens' behavioural change in the country.

Imatong State's Deputy Governor, Dr Margaret Itto who also attended the launch of the training on Friday, stressed a need to individually design ways of passing information about the HIV virus in the State.
