WAU, 22 March 2018 [Gurtong] – In a statement extended to Gurtong on Tuesday evening; the Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Dr Lado Wani, the company has failed to comply with government policies issued to them.

“The government has since obtained a policy of having an international gateway which Vivacell is requested to switch its system to but it is not doing so. They are supposed to connect to that gateway, but they are not complying with it and the gateway project belongs to the Ministry of Information,” he said.

Meanwhile Vivacell issued their statement saying that they are working with the relevant authorities to have the matter resolved with the highest priority.

Subscribers of the network were disappointed and complained at the move the government has taken without issuing a notice.

“Suspension of Vivacell is unfortunate, we urge all the citizens to stand together in protest so that the government reverses their decision,” said one subscriber.

Philip Juang from the UN’s protection of civilians Sites one, POC1 is another subscriber who is not happy with the order.

“The government must reverse their order and reopen the network that is serving the people.”  said Juang.

Another mobile user, James, complained that as a citizen of the country, it is his right to communicate with people in and out of the country without interference from the government.
“We have to stand firm with vivacell so that the government reverses the decision” James said.
