Members of South Sudan’s ceasefire monitors said they have asked the Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to engage the National Salvation Agreement.

JUBA, January 21, 2019 [Gurtong] - This was revealed at the end of a three day meeting of the 7th Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangement Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) Technical Committee in Juba on Saturday.

The Technical Committee is made up of senior Generals from the Parties and the CTSAMVM leadership. The committee meets every two weeks to discuss the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement.

This was the first time the meeting was held in Juba.

The members signed a document of the recommendations from their meeting. One the representatives of the government, Maj. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuelsaid they made recommendations to IGAD to ensure that Thomas Cirillo’s group was involved in the implementation of the revitalized peace Agreement.

“We have issued a number of decisions and we have shared them with IGAD and Reconstituted JMEC so that they politically and diplomatically engage General Thomas to stop the violations which are taking place in Yei River State,” said Gen. Rabi.

He revealed that CTSAMVM Chairperson Maj. Gen. Desta Abiche had directly communicated with General Cirillo to about observing the Cessation of Hostilities agreement that he had signed together with the other parties.

The CTSAMVM chairperson, Maj. Gen. Desta Abiche last week pointed Yei River State as a security threat to the implementation of the Security Arrangements due to the presence of NAS.

Gen. Cirillo in last September did not sign the R-ARCSS.
