JUBA, 04 December 2010 (Gurtong) – “We are preparing for the Australian tour in February. However, as the country is preparing for the general elections in April, some political parties have expressed desire to hire us to perform during the campaigns. This therefore means we might consider putting the Australian visit on hold”, said the Rebel Squad music group which includes Disc Jockey Dee, Ngam Jay and Yang Suka.
The Chief Executive Officer of the group’s managers, Nyanginchar International David Nyang said the group started doing hip-hop songs in 2006 but released its first album in 2008.
“The group faces marketing problems though they lunched their first 12-song album with the lead song ‘True soldier’. The second album has five songs but has not been launched due to piracy”, he said.
“We are so concerned about the high levels of piracy here and we now want to record our music outside the country, either in Nairobi or Australia then bring them back here to sell”, said Nyang.
“We shall be working to build our capacities in style and uniqueness in presentations besides going out to find who exactly our fans are”, he added.
The videos for ‘True Soldier’ and ‘Green land’ are superb and the group is planning to shoot new videos that equally match hip-hop rhythm and which shall also be used for the 2010 election campaigns.
The group was magnificent in their performance during the 2010 Miss Malaika South Sudan finals at Nyakuron Cultural Center in Juba.
During the Christmas and the New Year festivities, the Rebel Squad performed in Malakal, Renk, Nasir, Melut and Ulang counties in Upper Nile State.
