• World TB day commemorates the day on the 24th March 1882, when the cause of TB was discovered by a renown scientist (Robert Koch) which then opened the gates to the discovery of the drugs currently used for treating and curing TB.
• This day is globally celebrated by countries to raise awareness about TB and increase and sustain efforts towards TB control.
• In Southern Sudan for the first time we are taking the step to commemorate this day and pass the word of TB as a curable disease to all people of Southern Sudan and that nobody should die of an otherwise a treatable and curable disease such as TB.
• TB is commonly transmitted from one infectious person to another through the air although it can also be transmitted through drinking unboiled milk infected with TB germs.
• It commonly presents with cough. Anyone with cough lasting two or more weeks could be having TB, seek the nearest health facility for medical attention.
• Drugs for treating TB are available free of charge in Southern Sudan.
• TB can also be prevented through treating and curing all infectious persons with the disease, having well ventilated buildings, having good nutrition and in children offering BCG vaccination.
• Let us together “Sing the Song of Stopping TB” in Southern Sudan.
