YAMBIO, 14 May 2010 (Gurtong) – In the results announced over the state radio, Yambio FM, the SPLM has sent the highest number of parliamentarians to parliament through the various levels namely: geographical, women’s list and the party list.
The party bagged 37 seats while the National Congress Party (NCP) and Sudan African National Union (SANU) each won two seats.
Five independent candidates won in Kotobi Constituency in Mundri-West County, Yabongo in Yambio County, Yangiri and Andari in Ezo County and Source Yubu Constitiency in Tambura County.
However, two more seats are yet to be filled to bring the total number of WESLA members to 48.
The two seats in Yeri and Bagasu constituencies remain vacant after the National Elections Commission (NEC) suspended elections in the areas over electoral hiccups.
In Yeri Constituency, the polls were stopped after ballot papers were burnt while the death of Union of Sudan African Parties (USAP) candidate Addison Mangie Bausumo caused the cancellation in Bagasu Constituency.
The Constituency Elections Officer for Bangasu Animbue William said the elections in his constituency will be delayed for nearly two months as candidates get back to the campaign trail.
