On 8 and 9 May 2010, the Sudanese community in Hobart Tasmania welcomed Dr Luka
Biong, a minister in the Government of Southern Sudan. The community welcomed him with
open hands and appreciated him on the effort he made to come down to Tasmania.
Regrettably, one of unauthorised members of the Sudanese community in Tasmania
misinterpreted Dr Luka Biong’s speech and distributed his allegations around the globe.

Dr Luka Biong Deng
|
He alleged and reported that: “It is indeed we have problem in WES. Dr Luka Biong the high ranking man in the GOSS and from the presidential affairs was under fire from the Sudanese community in Hobart-Tasmania yesterday in a meeting that lasted for five hours. Let me just highlight the side of WES to you all.”
“1 - Dr Luke Biong accused Independent candidate of WES by saying he could allow certain things to happen (meaning that he rigged election) “
“2- He also said SPLA doesn't know how to rig election, it will take them another ten years to know how to rig election.”
“3- He also said tribalism is normal”.
“4- Independent candidates are creating problems and they need to reduce it (I'm not sure
how) “
“5- WES Governor-elect have two choice (1) either he is coming back to SPLM/A or (2) vote
of no confident (meaning that to fire him by vote of no confident to my guess)
I have all this on the tape no question about it here are is some of his photos with his
Australian wife....”
In response to the above allegations, the Sudanese community in Tasmania would like to
inform the Southern Sudanese community worldwide that the allegations made by this
individual Sudanese community member on Dr Luka Biong’s speech is completely lies, false
and baseless and has no credibility at all.
We the Sudanese community in Hobart Tasmania, denounced the allegation and condemn to the strongest possible term as a conspiracy and deceit directed on the peaceful Sudanese community in Hobart Tasmania. The allegation does not in any way represent our opinion as a community. We categorically reject them as typicallies that was issued and distributed across the globe to derail the progress and unity of the Sudanese community in Tasmania, and in particular the unity of Southern Sudan as a whole.
The pretender also alleged that he had the speech recorded on a tape as evidence. The
Sudanese community in Hobart Tasmania would like to assure all of you that none of the
allegation was in the speech as claimed. The minute of the meeting on 8 May 2010 were
taken by two responsible community members in Hobart and has been documented in the
community file in Hobart.
The alleged was not an authorised representative of the Sudanese community in Hobart Tasmania, and he has no authority in any way to distribute the speech.

The claimant also failed to understand that independent candidates, SPLA,SPLM and GoSS are different entities. SPLA is the army of Southern Sudan and was not apart of the contested April’s general elections in the Sudan. SPLM like any other parties in Southern Sudan contested for the general election. If SPLM were to rig election in WES, the independent candidate would have not won in that state.
Dr. Luka Biong’s speech was of high quality the Sudanese community in Hobart Tasmania
had ever received. His main speech included the progress and difficulties facing the GoSS on
implementing the CPA, April 2010 general elections in Sudan and the upcoming referendum
on 9 January 2011. The community had learned a lot from his speech, in particular his briefing
to the community on the upcoming referendum which otherwise some of the community members were not aware of the requirements.
The speech had never encouraged any tribalism neither targeted any particular political party or groups in Southern Sudan. He encouraged all the Southern Sudan community to work together as one family. He also emphasised on unity, peace and community relation in order to build a viable future for Southern Sudan.
Dr Luka Biong gave thanks to the Australian government for allowing him to visit Sudanese
community living in Tasmania, and also thanks the Sudanese community of Tasmania, for a
warm welcome accorded to him and his wife.
The Sudanese community in Tasmania will take any necessary action on this matter so that
such false representation and accusations never happens again in the future.
Yours faithfully,
The Executive Committee: The Sudanese Community Association of Tasmania Inc
