JUBA, 10 June 2010 (Gurtong) – The Education Minister Prof Job Dhoruai on Friday received 14 Land Cruiser vehicles and 32 TVS motorcycles donated by development partners at the ministry’s premises.
The Multi Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) donated 13 vehicles while one vehicle and the motorcycles were donated by the American people through the Education Development Center (EDC).
Prof Dhoruai said the vehicles and motorcycles will be used for various tasks in the Ministry including coordination, monitoring, inspection, supervision, evaluation and capacity building for staffs in the Ministry.
“There will be no excuse from the Ministry staff of lack of means to monitor programmes in the states for ourselves. The Ministry has programmes on school construction, capacity building, teachers training and alternative education system, which need closer monitoring”, he said.
The Minister added that one of his targets upon taking office was the provision of transport means to the Ministry staff, adding that the donations have fulfilled one of his goals.
The World Bank Task Team Leader for Education Programmes Getahun Gebru said the vehicles are meant to facilitate the quicker implementation of programmes.
“The role of the World Bank in this process is only to help implement the programmes by supporting the efforts of the government without putting any money but by administering the funds”, he said.
