RUMBEK, 21 September 2010 (Gurtong) - The container that arrived in the Kenyan port of Mombasa this weekend was received by the Director General in the State Health Ministry Dr Achut Achut.
Rumbek Community was established in 2009 in the USA to bring together inhabitants of Lakes State who stay in the USA and North America.
The President of the Rumbek Community Kalahan Kuc Deng told Gurtong by phone that the objective of the grouping was to assist people back home as well as their children in the USA to maintain their culture.
“Motivation is the process that account for an individual’s intensity, direction, and persistence of effort towards reaching a goal. We have shown the intensity through the efforts by some of us to better the lives of our countrymen back home”, he said.
Deng appealed to the Lakes State residents to unlock their potentials in order to develop the state.
“We should stand and not bend when encountering challenges facing many of our people back home. I’m very grateful to the dedicated men and women in the province of Ontario, the United States of America, the provinces of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Calgary, Saskatchewan, Regina, British Columbia and Vancouver. They are among those who know that nothing happens until they make it”, he said.
He cautioned South Sudanese to be wary of self-seeking leaders and urged them to work with development-conscious leaders.
The Lakes State Governor Chol Tong Mayay is planning a trip to USA following an invitation by the Rumbek community in USA.
During the visit on a date yet to be disclosed, Mayay is expected to meet businessmen and government officials.
