RAGA, 26th March, 2011 [Gurtong] - Western Bahr el Ghazal State Government launched a Television station in Uyujuku (Dem - Zubeir) Sub-County (Payam) over the weekend. This follows an earlier promise by Governor Rizik Zackaria Hussen, who announced to provide the State Payams headquarters with TV stations.

Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, SPLM, State Secretary Mr. Kamil Wana Uraj, officially handed over the equipments to the area residents.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony of the Television band and screen sets to the community in Dem-Zubeir, Wana thanked the Payam communities for their last January voting efforts for separation.

This is the first time for Western Bahr el Ghazal State government since 1947 when the Government of Southern Sudan under the leadership of the SPLM has tried to provide Citizens of South Sudan with basic needed.

“We are quite confident that as we are now an independent nation, our service’s provision will reach everyone and everywhere,” said Wana.

Wana recalled Dr. John Garang’s call to the leaders of Southern Sudan that “the government must take towns to the people not the people to leave rural areas to urban areas.”

“Our January referendum results has truly challenged the Unity Government, therefore you must bear in mind that we have become an independent nation from the Northern regime which made us voiceless for many years,” Wana added.

Wana called on all South Sudanese citizens to focus on Agriculture in order to meet global food standards, which will avoid foreign economies food imports hence reduce heavy dependency on neighbouring Countries.

“As South Sudan prepares for independence celebrations on 9th/July/2011, the State Government will donate some amount of money for the celebrations in all Payams across the State including your Payam,” Wana promised on his speech.

Last weekend, Governor Hussen announced during a press conference that his government will provide citizens with services that included the just launched TV signal, offered to the communities of Dem- Zubeir.
