JICA to Start 2nd Round Pilot Project for Solid Waste Management at Konyo Konyo Market

In Collaboration with Kator Payam.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Mr. Francis Taban, Director of Kator Payam agreed to restart to clean up piled garbage at the center of Konyo Konyo market from 4th of May, 2011.

The Project was designed and requested by Juba County Office in early 2011, and JICA agreed to support the activities after series of discussions with County and Payam office administrations. Also, the Project is implemented in line with “Keep Juba Clean” Operation which has been initiated by both GoSS and State Ministry of Health, and Juba City Council.
   
First Pilot Project was conducted in March 2011, and the Project provided equipments such as wheel borrows and shovels, and cleaned the garbage along the street in Konyo Konyo and near the Jabel Markets. Second Pilot Project aims to complete cleaning up of accumulated garbage at the center of Konyo Konyo, which will take 4 or 5days, and installing the temporary fence until local authority decide usage of the land. Then, the Project will consider how to keep clean the area though the discussions with local venders and community.      
 
JICA is also planning to implement long term Technical Cooperation Project on this field, which is expected to commence from September 2011, and the Minutes of Meeting was signed by Ministry of Environment, GoSS, Juba County Office, Juba City Council in last week.
