SPLM (Vancouver Chapter) Statement on the illegal occupation of Abyei by the Sudan Armed Forces.

Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement (SPLM) Vancouver Chapter British Columbia, Canada 108-7121, 14th, Avenue, Bc. V3N 1Z3

May 23rd, 2011

To: The media and members of the press.

On Saturday, May 21rd, 2011 Sudan Armed Forces invaded Abyei town, violating the Abyei protocol as per Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). The Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement (SPLM) and the National Congress Party (NCP) are in post referendum talk in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia yet, the NCP led government sent in troop to occupyAbyei.

The SPLM Chapter here in British Columbia, government of South Sudan in Juba (GOSS) and the people of Southern Sudan condemned this illegal occupation of Abyei by Sudan Armed Forces (SAF). This is a serious violation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and the Abyei’sProtocol. We urge the Canadian government, the United States and the United Nations Security council to join the GOSS and the SPLM party in condemning this criminal act and demand an immediate withdrawal of the Sudan Armed Forces out Abyei.

The Arial bombardment and shelling of Abyeitown with long range missiles, raping of women fleeing the area, lootings of properties, burning of four villages, all these are clear intentions by NCP and SAF and it is an indication of a declaration of a full scale war on people of Abyei and Southern Sudan.  The world should stand up against the Sudan government.

We would like to inform the Canadian government, United States, European unions, AU and the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) that we are still and remained committed to the Abyei protocol. The government of South Sudan is up to this moment maintaining no presence of SPLA forces in Abyei.
