TORIT, 24th June, 2011 [Gurtong] – Eastern Equatoria State Legislative Assembly finally endorsed the State’s new flag on Wednesday in sitting No. 3 session 3; following deliberations after a motion was raised by the State Minster of Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Clement Laku Chichim.

The official EES flag compromises of a logo and 4 colours, the first being cream, positioned at the upper and lower end of the flag; symbolizing minerals or the State’s rich resources whereas the second colour is black located in the middle representing the racial skin colour of the EES people. The third colour is red symbolizing bloodshed during the struggle whereas green, enclosed in an oval shape represents the State’s Vegetation/Agriculture.

Hon. Clement Laku explained that the cheetah in the State logo -described as gently moving, symbolizes the rate of development, the nature of the people of EES who are always organized and quick to respond.

Prior to the endorsement, the Bill was presented in memo GOSS/MPA/EES/T/14.A.1 dated 23rd May, 2011 to the State Council of Ministers by Hon. Clement Laku Chichim, for discussions resulting into an undisputed approval by the State Council of Ministers on 26th May, 2011.

Thereafter, the Bill was then presented to State Assembly on 22nd June; by Hon. Clement although with questions and demands for clarifications on meanings but got backing by the House and was passed.

All the writings in the logo including Counties and final grammatical correction are to be confirmed next Monday. “All the corrections made must be according to the wishes of concerned Counties,” said Hon. Paul Napwon Yonae, EESLA Deputy Speaker.

Napwon also reminded the house that the State’s flag shall bear this inscription ‘the Republic of south Sudan’ at the upper section then followed immediately below ‘Government of Eastern Equatoria State’

According to the speaker, the bill spells that each County shall be responsible in producing their own flag after the State parliament endorses the Ministers proposal.

The EES new flag is beautiful and colourful and represents the true image of EES. We are a sunshine state with a lot of mineral resources, good Agricultural land and the Amazon forest of ROSS, EES should maintain the Green belt of state forest and for every tree cut down a new one should be planted in its place.
Re established the Upper Talanga Tea Project(UTTP) and save money on tea imports. The Upper Talanga Tea was going to be one of the best tea in Africa as compared to the grown Tea of the same kind given the latitude at which the tea is grown at 1,800 meters above sea level.

We should be the grain basket of the republic of South sudan and be rossy even to produce Rose Flowers and other exotic fruits as berries, Guavas oranges and be like California state in the USA. The cheetah must not stop running and remain the best Athletes in the Animal world and so must EES in the field of fast development. If the Cheetah will not run fast enough we will in the future change it with a Gear trasmission, but I hope the cheetah is a good player and runner. Good luck with the new flag.
