TORIT, 09 November 2011 (Gurtong) –Speaking to the press after witnessing the festival held in Kapoeta town where both Muslims and Christians attended together following the Muslims’ invitation, the spokesperson for the Government of Eastern Equatoria Nasike Allan Lochul delivered a congratulatory message on behalf of the State Government.
She said the unique occasion not only symbolises unity and co-existence between the Muslim and Christian blocs in the new South Sudan but also between the South Sudanese and other Muslims from different nationalities, North Sudanese in particular.
“I was so impressed to witness how Christians interacted with Muslims during the occasion. It was a historic moment and the only one of its kinds in the history of the state after attainment of the independence of South Sudan. I hope that this is a sign of better things to come”, said Lochul who doubles as the State Minister for Information and Telecommunications.
The Eastern Equatoria State Legislative Assembly Speaker Emmanuel Ambrose Ocholimoi echoed the Minister’s sentiments, saying the Muslim community is welcome in South Sudan and is free to conduct their businesses.
“I urge you to be proud of our hard-won independence and help us in collectively re- building South Sudan”, he said.
