TORIT, 16th January 2012 [Gurtong] – With an aim to maintain hygiene standards and perhaps environmental protection in every Eastern Equatoria State town, the State Government in collaboration with the Torit County authority has launched a broad-based cleanliness campaign.

The launching ceremony was held at Torit freedom square early last week with a few Torit residents attending.

“The launch primarily serves as a reminder to the entire State to do the cleanliness exercise on daily basis,” the State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore insistently said.

Last year the State government together with Torit County authorities carried out similar campaigns to keep the State environment clean.

While addressing the small gathering, Governor Lobong pledged to take lead so that others could follow the practice; he said if the move is abided, it would help reduce chances of diseases spreading.

He directed the State Ministries to utilize their support staff to embark on the exercise around Torit town and other towns in the State as he instructed the Torit County authority to deploy the existing  500 casual workers.

The Governor affirmed that the ongoing exercise shall be used to identify committed casual employees as it screens those absconding from the task.

He informed the gathering that he has communicated to all the County authorities to carry out similar cleanliness activities thoroughly.

On his turn, the Torit County Commissioner, Mr. Felix Otuduha Siro welcomed the move and reiterated his County’s commitment to maintaining proper sanitation as directed by the State Government.

The County Commissioner disclosed that regulations have been put in place to deal with those found dumping refuse carelessly.

Otuduha who praised most women in the State as role models by actively getting engaged in implementing the exercise. He challenged the male counterparts to emulate them and work together.
