BOR, 25th January 2012 [Gurtong] – The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Chief of Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Programme-South Sudan, Mr. Ken Maskall yesterday urged all citizens of Jonglei State to create safe environment for children and learn to forgive and forget.

Speaking exclusively to Gurtong media in Bor, Mr Ken Maskall said that UNICEF is in partnership with other United Nation (UN) agencies, Non-Governmental Organisations partners and Government are focused to protect, provide nutrition and basic education to children in Jonglei's conflict-hit areas.

He added that, UNCEF has prioritized Pibor, Akobo, Ayod and Duk Counties of Jonglei State for immediate support.

Mr. Maskall added that, there is need for rapid relief on water supply to areas affected by inter tribal conflicts in Jonglei three weeks ago.

“Most of the displaced population more especially in Pibor depends on oasis and streams for drinking water,” he said.  The UN staff reiterated the danger of drinking unclean water and the drying up of the oasis in some of the areas within in the dry seasons.

Ken told Gurtong that, insecurity and lack of communication facilities to locate the partners and the needy are affecting their operations in the State.

“UNCEF is moving in lots of equipments but lack of proper road network in the State hiders humanitarian efforts,” Ken added.
