BENTIU, 2nd February 2012 [Gurtong] - Heavy fighting erupted yesterday in Unity State’s Mayiendit County between Warrap and Unity State authorities following the report that 76 people have been killed by the people from Unity State.

After the incident, the two States have called upon a cease fire agreement to be discussed in Mayiendit and have to be attended by the Minister of Interior Affairs in the Republic of South Sudan whose plane failed to land due to the fighting on the ground.

According to eyewitness, the fighting occurred between the police bodyguards on both sides who accompanied the delegations.

There have been a lot of causalities on the ground but there are no exact figures for death or injured people so far reported due to lack of proper communication.

The State government has also sent another team to the site to assess the situation with allegations that the town is currently burned to ashes.

Other sources say that two UN staff were among the injured persons but there is no accurate information available at the moment.

The meeting which resulted into serious fighting was attended by the Unity State’s Security Advisor Brig. Michael Chiangjiek Geay, Police Commissioner Maj. Gen. Elijah Maduk Yuong, and UNMIS staff among other Unity State government officials.
