WAU, 16 May 2012 [Gurtong] – The State Governor Rizik Zackaria Hassan chaired the Assembly’s first sitting for this year on Tuesday.

The opening ceremony was also marked by the swearing in of 49 members of the assembly including the new face in assembly, Mathew Chan Majok, who has been appointed by the State Governor to represent the disabled people in the assembly.

The function was graced by the State High Court President Charles Abyei Mabieng.

Governor Hassan commended the members for their immense input in the last session, which he said made the state government achieve a lot in terms of development.

He re-affirmed his government’s commitment to a peaceful and prosperous state, adding that key priority in the next session will be given to pending issues with Sudan including border demarcation, citizenship, oil pipeline, former Sudan assets and outstanding debts of the republic of Sudan.

“Despite the continued aggression by Khartoum against South Sudan, we must continue rendering services to our people who are in need of support and we must also support our gallant forces that are defending our territorial borders”, said the Governor.

Hassan at the same time urged the members of the assembly to abide by the principles of inclusiveness, transparency and accountability to build a strong foundation for South Sudan.
