TORIT, 25 May 2012 [Gurtong] – Speaking on Tuesday in Torit when the Somali business community in Torit County handed over a donation to support the SPLA forces, the community called for acceptance by the South Sudanese as they did not have any malicious motives.
“Our presence here should not be misconstrued to think that we are pursuing terrorist activities as many believe of Somalis”, said the chairperson of the Somali community in Torit of Eastern Equatoria State Abdullahi Mohamed.
He added that the members of the Somali community in Tort are peace-loving and only interested in business to sustain their families.
“We are very peaceful and do not even involve in social ills like drinking. We are therefore requesting our South Sudanese hosts to welcome us without any suspicion. We want to be part of South Sudan and develop the economy and tackle social evils together”, he said in the company of his secretary Abdi Osman.
The community handed over assorted foods and other items worth 14,510 South Sudanese Pounds to Torit County authorities to support SPLA currently fighting the Sudan Armed Forces in defence of South Sudan.
