AWEIL, 07 June 2012 [Gurtong] - The one-month standoff is reported to have been masterminded by some top SPLM members in the state secretariat.

The Assembly Speaker Aguer Wol Aguer told Gurtong that the wrangles started in April this year when a section of legislators ganged up to disrupt house business and to oust the Speaker.

Among the accusations raised included insubordination and failure by the Assembly to deliberate on the 2011/2012 state budget.

The members have called for Aguer’s resignation over the impasse.

He said he is willing to step down once the constitutional procedures are followed to impeach him.

He  has attributed the standoff to his stand on taxation of the MP’s salaries.
