TORIT, 08 June 2012 [Gurtong] – The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Dr Jok Madut Jok told Gurtong that the exercise is aimed at securing South Sudan’s history.

“The objective is to strengthen the country’s historical information keeping and management system. It is unfortunate that some documents have been destroyed by termites”, he said.

An independent researcher heading the process, Dr Douglas H. Johnson has been joined by a team of students from Michigan and Durham Universities of the United States and the United Kingdom respectively.

Johnson told the press that crucial historical information from the 1920s about South Sudan is missing from the archives.

He said the British colonialists left with crucial historical documents while others were destroyed during the civil war.

Meanwhile, the South Sudanese government has approved the various colours for official business by government establishments.

Government spokesperson Dr Barnaba Marial told the press the resolution was passed by the Council of Ministers last Friday.

He said the “signature inks” decision for different offices in government was meant to create order in governance.

He said President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his Deputy Dr Riek Machar will use black ink to sign documents while Ministers will sign documents using blue ink.

“The Secretary General of the Cabinet, undersecretaries and Director Generals will use green ink for their signatures on documents while the Auditor General and accountants will use red ink for the same”, said Dr Marial.
