AWEIL, 08 July 2012 [Gurtong] – The Dinka Malual and Rizeigat ethnic communities reached an agreement last Monday in Gok Machar village near the border with South Darfur.

The two communities have had a long history of mutual self respect in sharing natural resources.
The Rizeigat are mainly Arab-nomadic pastoralists from Southern Darfur and Kordofan who usually graze their cattle around River Kiir-kou.
Following the independence of South Sudan, the Rizeigat maintained their respect to good border relations and peaceful coexistence with the Dinka Malual unlike before.

The Post-Migration Review Conference was held to review the 2012 migration and assess the implementation of the Aweil Agreement of January 2012.
“The two communities deplore war and recommit themselves to ending senseless vicious self-destruction and unnecessary impediment of development”, says part of the new agreement.

Hassan Al Tahir Hamadon, a head to the Rizeigat delegation told Gurtong on phone that the two sides signed an agreement to continue the implementation of all previously concluded agreements between the two tribes.

A joint communiqué issued as part of the deal provides for means of communication between tribal leaders and setting migration routes for the nomads.
The two sides agreed “To support and rejuvenate a joint community traditional policing”.

The organisers of the conference received financial support from the US Government.

On the closing day, the State Deputy Governor Madut Dut Yel urged the participants to communicate the information received at the workshop to their communities.
