WAU, 23 August 2012 [Gurtong] – Wol Baak scored the first goal against Nahda FC in the second half after the first half ended in a draw.
Baak, popularly referred to as “Nijima” which means star, netted the second goal in the last quarter of the second half.
Nahda managed to secure a sole goal in the second half. The return match is expected to be played in Bentiu on Saturday.
The win now puts El Mareikh now nine points clear at the top of the table.
El Mareikh had earlier played against Warrap’s Grassco FC in July where they won 5-0 aggregate.
The South Sudan Football Association hosted the first ever football match between Aweil Mereikh Club and Bentiu Nahda club in Aweil.
The Match at Aweil Freedom square was highly attended by thousands of supporters and was organised under the theme "A Goal for Peace."
The tournament is supported by the Northern Bahr el Ghazal Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the winner of the semi final will play in the finals in Juba this September.
