RUMBEK, 10 October 2012 (Gurtong - According to Isaac Akec, the SPLM youths in New South Wales (NSW) Australia formed the youth league after long deliberations in September and declared their commitment to rally youths behind the party in delivering good governance, peace, unity and prosperity for all South Sudanese.

Maper Akec Gum was elected as chairperson among the many contestants and he vowed to ensure that everyone understands the SPLM vision and mission.

Maper pleaded with youths to contribute to the political and socio-economic development of the country.

He urged the youths to comprehend the ruling party as just “an administration working hard every day to progress the country on all fronts and not as a rich institution to provide jobs for everybody.”

The youths are “great assets” he said while directing South Sudanese youth to build their capacity by taking various trainings to acquire skills and seek jobs on self employment and in the private sector.

“We cannot always expect to be employed by someone else. We should be looking at our potential to create opportunities in self-employment,” he said.

He also wants to see policies tailored to the enhancement of all cross-cutting issues affecting youth.

“Cross-cutting issues such as gender equality, HIV/AIDS, capacity-building and youth employment need clear policies as quest for an enhanced quality of life for all South Sudanese,” he said.
Johnson Garang Ngor, one of the founding members of the league said the formation of the youth league will provide a platform for youths to stage their full participation and contribute directly to the party and governance affairs.
