TORIT, 25 November 2012 [Gurtong] –
Acting Director General, Jina Ceasar says that her ministry has fully prepared and worked through the technical committee currently on the ground with selected farmers preparing them with quality products to be exhibited.

The ministry has had progressive farmers selected from the eight counties which participated in the state Agricultural Show held in Torit.
This year’s theme at Torit was ‘Appropriate Technology for increased food production’.
The Agriculture Exhibition set to start on 27 November will enable the 10 states to compete with their products.
She noted that the challenge has been moving from old agricultural system into profit-making crop growing to fight food insecurity.
At Torit, the committee selected Magwi, Ikwoto and Budi counties as the best to represent in Juba, but the ministry later decided to add on farmers from those counties who had quality products.

Leaders have discouraged the local population from continuously relying on food importation from foreign countries but to practice food production in the state.

Farmers need appropriate technology that is relevant, adoptable and affordable to help boost production as food security in the state is achievable if focus is shifted towards harnessing water for irrigations, draft power for animals’ traction and Agro forestry for improved environment.
