The man from Ritich Village of Akon South Payam in Gogrial West County returned to his house late at night, according to eyewitnesses and killed his wife by stabbing her in the stomach with a spear.

Seeing his wife dead the man burned all his tukuls (traditional houses) and threw himself into the fire but jumped back out after being badly burned. He was rushed to Akon South Primary Health Care Centre and later to Alek County Hospital where he died the following day from the burn wounds.

The reason of killing his wife is still unknown, but some of the residents of the village suspect that the man may have been drunk. The couple left five children including a five-month-old baby. The children were rescued unharmed and are now with relatives.

Police are still investigating the violence.
