Deputy Governor Congratulates State Citizens On The Historic Day

The Eastern Equatoria State Deputy Governor, Jerome Gama Surur has welcomed the initiative to have the Peace Day merged with the Independence Day celebrations on 9 July every year as he congratulated the citizens on the historical day when the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed in 2005.

TORIT, 09 January 2013 [Gurtong]-
“On behalf of the Governor, the Government of Eastern Equatoria State, and on my own behalf, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the entire people of this historical State on the important Day for the people of the Republic of South Sudan, the 9th of January 2005 when the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed,” he said in a message.
 
He said that citizens have reasons to be proud of the history and thanked the residents for the commitment to the liberation struggle by maintaining peace.

“Let us be one people of this great state regardless of our tribes and cultures and creeds. Together we will make Eastern Equatoria State to be a great state and a better place to live,” he said.

He said that the national Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Service and Labour in Juba confirmed to them that the celebrations would not be done and they will honour the request.
 
Employees have been urged to go on with their work as normal.

January 9th is the day when the historic and expired Comprehensive Peace Agreement, (CPA) was signed in Nairobi in 2005.

This Day is commemorated yearly in remembrance of the CPA that ushered in a new peaceful era in the history of South Sudan after decades of civil war where 2.5million people were killed and over 4 million others displaced.
