COTAL Leaders Start Familiarization Tour to 3 African Countries

The Council of Traditional Authority Leaders (COTAL) from the Republic of South Sudan will this afternoon start a study and familiarization tour to South Africa, Botswana and Ghana.

JUBA, 13 January 2013 [Gurtong] – The tour involves meeting with National House of Traditional Leaders (NHTL) in Johannesburg and holding discussions with the President of Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (CONTRALESA).

They will also be addressed on Chieftaincy and Local Government by Kgoshi Thobejane, Dr. Mcebisi Ndltenyana, Prof. Shakes Binza and Prof. Lungisile Ntsebeza in Johannesburg.

In Botswana the team will get a briefing from the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and meet with the Chairperson and Members of the House of Chiefs, including an address by the Chairperson on The Role of the House in the Governance of Modern Botswana in Gaborone.

In Ghana, the members will meet with Members of the National House of Chiefs, led by Prof. John Nabila and receive a lecture on Chieftaincy and Local Government in Ghana, Past and Present by Prof. George Hagan where they will also meet the Paramount Chief at Ho.

The tour ends on 01 February 2013.
