TORIT, 15 February 2013 [Gurtong] –
He appeals to all Christians especially those of Torit, to pray for his [Pope Benedict XVI’s] health so he increases his lifespan and so his wisdom is benefited by the young christian leaders.

“Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Catholic Diocese of Torit, I send you greetings. I have received an urgent message through the office of the Nuncio in Khartoum on the genuinely and importantly the request of the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI to step down on 28th February 2013 from Office,” says the message from the Bishop.

He said the Holy Father is kindly requesting Christians that he is stepping down due to health problem and for the great love to the people and the Church as he would love someone strong to take over from him.

“My dear Brothers and Sisters, it is only out of this Sickness that he is stepping down and from this great task. He expressed how his health had deteriorated for the last three months,” he said.

“Let us pray for the Holy Father, especially the Late Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI who were so special to the Catholic Diocese of Torit. They were so much involved for the stability of our country. The Late Pope John II was the one who appointed me as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Torit and Pope Benedict XVI confirmed me,” he said.

“We are, therefore, the most affected by this statement; but we thank him for his courageous act for the Love of the Church because he wanted the Church to be Strong and Faithful,” he added.
