Football League Launched in Jonglei State

The Jonglei State Football Association has launched a local football league to identify teams which will qualify to participate in the South Sudan championship.

BOR, 17 February 2013 [Gurtong] –“Today is the opening of the Local Football League which will continue up to May 2013 with 19 teams competing for the championship,” said chairperson of the local football association, John Ayor.

Ayor said that the matches are for the teams within the local area though they have different teams competing from the governor’s cup, South Sudan cup and other competitions.

He said the winning team with go for the national championship and the losing team will drop from the top division.

Ayor said that they are preparing themselves for two championships; the state team and the South Sudan cup where there will be a team representing the state outside and championship team which will represent South Sudan outside the country.

The match between Nijum versus Salaam ended in a 1-1 draw.

“We don’t consider their goals we consider the points,” he said.

The association has no financial support and depends on the state government for transport.

The captain of Salaam team, Giet Atem Giet has said that they were all happy about the match conducted between them and Nijum team.

“The match is one of most peaceful steps with Nijum and we are happy though we drew with them tomorrow we will defeat them I hope,” he said.

“The competition was very good to both of us I cannot say it was bad, we will support ourselves so that we lead this competition as Jonglei team,” said Yuach Michael Bil the captain of Nijum team.
