JUBA, Sudan, March 24 (GURTONG) – The Minister for Internal Affairs Paul
Mayom described his role as head of security in South Sudan as like being ‘in
hot soup’ in a press conference for his ministry held in Juba on Friday.

The chiefs, who represent all eight counties of Lakes States, also voted on
a leader for the council. Chief Dut Malwal Arop, a high profile chief and already
an elected community leader for three of the counties, will serve as the Chairman
of the council for an as yet unknown period of time.

The draft constitution was a result of several days work and dialogue between
the chiefs who represent all eight counties of Lakes State. The paper was discussed
at length on Wednesday afternoon by chiefs from all parts of the state together
with Chief Dut Malwal Arop, a high profile chief and community leader who is
also the focal point for the chiefs at the conference.

During Wednesday afternoon much dialogue was had between the chiefs concerning
the effect the establishment of payam and county courts have had on their powers,
with these judiciaries taking over cases that would, traditionally, be dealt
with by the chiefs themselves.

RUMBEK, Sudan, March 14 (Gurtong) – Brought from across the wildness
of Lakes State in the heart of Southern Sudan, more than forty chiefs wearing
a variety of hats from a Moroccan fez to khaki safari style and one looking
like a Siberian fur began the process of constructing a chief’s council
in their state on Tuesday.

This morning, HE President Salva Kiir Mayardit met with HE Gier Cuang Aluong,
Minister for Telecommunications and Postal Services. HE the Minister explained
that he had been away from Juba for some time for medical treatment. He was
now recovered and had visited the President to update him on events and progress
in his Ministry so far this year.
