The Government of Southern Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir Mayardit issued decree No.1 for 2007 yesterday, dismissing four of five officials suspended on the 28th of October 2006 from the GOSS Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning on corruption charges. Read more

In a speech made following the first reading of the 2007 budget at end December,
the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, H.E. Arthur Akuein Chol estimated
that in the next year some US$58 million could be generated from tax revenue
as a whole.

Following the furor instigated by an article published in a major British newspaper
that peacekeeping staff from the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) ‘are
facing allegations of raping and abusing children as young as 12’ the
Minister for Presidential Affairs, Dr Luka Biong has released a statement saying
that the Presidency of South Sudan has asked a central government minister to
look into the allegations.

(KHARTOUM) — The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement condemned the
publication of false reports accusing some members of the Southern Sudan government
of corruption. The SPLM further urged the formation of neutral body to probe
on corruption in the country.
